My next-door neightbor’s son wants to be Darth Vader for Halloween. I was appalled, especially since Mary was in the middle of making a superhero costume for him. When I asked him why in the world he would want to be baddie instead of a goodie, he told me, because Darth Vader was “cool.”  

I looked to Mary with a puzzled face, and then she told me about his cousin’s collection of Star Wars vintage toys.  It seemed that little Mike had seen his cousin, the one he hero-worshiped, playing with a toy Darth Vader and now Darth Vader was all he talked about.  It just goes to show that other kids have so much influence on your own, good and bad. Poor Mary now has an awesome Spiderman costume and no one to wear it, what a shame!
