Sleep Apnea Treatments - Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
February 21st, 2008 . by adminOf the many sleep apnea treatments available today one very common and popular treatment uses continuous positive airway pressure. This treatment (usually referred to for ease as CPAP treatment) works by forcing air into your mouth during sleep to ‘push open’ your airway. CPAP treatment requires the sufferer to wear a mask while sleeping, which is connected to a special CPAP machine.
Unfortunately there are a number of problems with this form of treatment including the obvious problem of having to get used to wearing a mask in bed, as well as such things as facial skin irritation, nasal irritation, sore eyes, headaches and abdominal bloating.
One other very important point to remember is that CPAP is a treatment but not a cure for sleep apnea. If you stop wearing the mast at night the problem will return.
