Hyperhydrosis-Cause for Embarassment
February 18th, 2009 . by admin“I am really nervous about my job interview next week,” my friend Justin said to me. We were discussing our employment prospects. “You’ll do fine,” I replied. “You have all the qualifications for the job.” “I also have sweaty palms when I get nervous,” Justin answered. “Just thinking about shaking hands with someone makes them start to sweat.” “Have you considered seeing a doctor about it? My brother-in-law’s feet were so sweaty, my sister threatened to kick him out of their bed. His doctor said he has a condition called hyperhydrosis,” I told Justin. “It is excessive sweating of the feet, hands, armpits, and face. Hyperhydrosis can be an inherited trait or caused by a medical condition like diabetes.” “What caused your brother-in-law’s problem and how is it treated?” Justin wanted to know. “His condition is caused by an undiagnosed thyroid problem,” I replied. “He is taking Oxybutynin to manage the hyperhydrosis. His doctor said surgery is also an option.” Justin said, “I think I’ll call my doctor today. Thanks for the advice.”
