I wonder just how obsessed Edwardian London really was about the paranormal. If books, stories and movies are to be believed, they simply could not go a week without connecting to the dead via mediums and spiritualists. 

Amongst all the genuine practitioners, there were, of course, charlatans. Then there were those who promoted a belief in their activities, against those who wished merely to debunk anything paranormal. It was certainly a fascinating period, with a jumble of ideas all struggling for credibility over the others. 

There are some stories around covering the period and these kinds of events, some are available as audio download books, read by the author or a voice actor, and are very entertaining, if not entirely historically accurate in every detail.
